goodbye to the mazda

my good, (not that) old, trusty mazda has failed me. for about a week it had been acting funny, bucking around (only since i have been out west has this expression entered my vernacular). when we went down to denver on wednesday, and had to drive in traffic, it was particularly bad. eamon brought it in to the shop yesterday, where they told him that my transmission would need to be replaced.
knowing that my car has over 100,000 miles on it and was going to die on us anyway, we will be purchasing a new car. so this weekend we will head to the dealership to look for this:

a toyota prius. we had always said that when the mazda dies, we would get a hybrid. i was just hoping that the mazda would last until we drove it back to massachusetts. that way we wouldn't have to drive it cross country.
so, in addition to frontier week, packing the house, finishing up at work and searching for a new house/job, we have to go car shopping. but that's life. and we get a new car. and it happened before i repaired the cosmetic, got the oil changed and got it detailed. though it wasn't before i got 4 new tires put on it.
i'm kind of sad that i will not be driving it (mostly) till september. the original plan was that i would drive the ranger to boston, and eamon would drive the mazda (now prius) to california, and them from california to massachusetts. with the smaller size of the prius, i don't see that as likely to change.
but we'll see!

let's hear it for hotel blocks...

eamon and i are going to joe and karla's wedding in october, prior to him leaving for greenland. a bunch of our friends from fort collins will be coming, so i am very excited. especially because it is in newport!

wedding at regatta place

i heart newport, which is only about 35 minutes from my house back home. but because it was so close to where we will be, booking a hotel was not a big priority for us. it just kind of went to the back of my mind. i thought eamon was going to book it, and he though i was.

we got the save the date months ago, telling us to get one now because it is during columbus day weekend and oktoberfest. when i checked today there was nothing available that was close to the reception. but when i called the hyatt regency on the phone, they told me they had two rooms left for the tobin wedding. hooray!

hyatt regency on goat island marina

can't wait to show everyone around newport - it's such a fun place and it really is beautiful. samantha and i go out on "dates" there and did a lot of alcohol promotions downtown. they have really great shopping (including my ex's family store "Christmas by the Sea"), so i better find a job!

in memory.

a year has passed.

from an old blog:
i just want to thank everyone for all of their love and support. i have wonderful friends who have been there for me from the very beginning, to the very end. i'll never forget any of it. the house in somerset was always filled with love and laughter, a place where friends were family.
we'll always remember, so he'll never really be gone.

don't...

kidding.

kind of.

for some reason we like to think that it is fun to go innertubing down the poudre river. eamon has gone three times and i have gone twice. i am not going again.

i lost my tube twice, go my foot caught in a rock and couldn't go anywhere as my friends tried not to barrle into me. when tony tried to avoid crashing into me, he lost his tube and we both had to backstroke down the rocks. angela got caught on the other side of the river, joel needed stiches and several other people were bleeding.
i am not outdoor adventure girl. i get my thrills navigating saks, thank you very much.

of course, there were tons of poudre jokes to go around. i got my ass kicked by the poudre. i got poudre in my beer. the poudre hurts. i smell like poudre. we lost our tube while navigating the poudre. etc. etc.

just say no to this:

try this instead:

more new kicks

my running shoes were getting pretty worn out and i've been saying that i will replace them for months now. when we went tubing sunday i wore them, forcing myself to go pick out some new ones if i didn't want to smell like the poudre river when i exercised.

eamon had the late ride tuesday (and wednesday), so we met for dinner and sneakers shopping after work. yea new shoes!

these boots were made for walking....

i needed cowboy boots for frontier days. after much deliberation about whether i should buy or just find some to borrow, i bought these:
now i'm wearing them around the house trying to break them in. if the eastcoasters could see me now.

it begins

i applied for my first job back east today. (yikes!)

i still think it is a bit early, but it has been open for a few weeks and it really is very similar to what i am doing now.

i won't jinx it, other than to say that it is at boston university.

i really am not looking forward to this whole "looking for a job" process. or the whole "looking for a house" process. or the whole "packing up the house and having to hire movers because the air force sucks" process.

nah, i'm not stressed.
