yankees suck!

we're famous (not really)

geeks who drink posted us in all of our awesomeness on sunday night.

Yankees Suck, pictured below, didn’t do so well, probably because they were so busy watching their beloved Sox sweep the Yanks.

she must be mine

showdown in beantown

the red sox had their opening series against the yankees this past weekend. of course it had to be celebrated accordingly. friday night eamon, carol, jody, whitney and i went to buffalo wild wings to watch the game, and so that carol, who adores spicy food, could try some super hot chicken wings. jody (the other spicy food eater) was pretty impressed with the way she handled the 'blazin' wings. she's pretty hardcore.

the game started pretty shaky, but the sox pulled through 7-6. the guys used mariano as a tee. they wore their st. patrick's day jerseys (eamon did too on a whim!) to honor red auerbach, legendary celtics coach who passed away last year.

i skipped the game saturday (gasp!) to show carol around old town, but the sox didn't dissappoint. eamon kept me updated by sending me texts (even during church!), and we won 7-5.

on sunday we drove carol back to the airport and then went home for much needed rest. we play trivia on sunday nights with andrew, cara, dave and anne at coopersmith's. our usual name is 'eastcoastbias' (because all but one of us are from massachusetts), but for the night we changed our names to 'yankees suck!' and all wore red sox clothing. well, expect for cara because she's a stupid yankees fan (our team name for the night was almost 'cara sucks!')

the game started poorly with dice-k giving up some quick runs. but the boys had a historical third inning with back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers. needless to say, we were pretty happy with the sweep. a-rod being the one to cause the final out only made it sweeter. i heart jonathon papelbon.

fun times at fado

wednesday night we went down to fado with lou and keeley to see brian clancy. though i couldn't stay long (carol was flying in at 9:30), a good time was had. brian has been asking me for pictures from st. patty's day and i assured him i would send them in friday. i didn't of course. i keep forgetting to upload them onto my computer. when i (finally) do, i'll put them up on here as well.

here is a teaser from brian's site. i can kinda see us - but only because i know where we are!

more cute face

wiiiiiii !

eamon and i have a new addition to our family. imagine this on the 73 inch television. freaking awesome.

we hooked it up last night. eamon had only played once at pat's, but i had never played at all. last night we tried bowling (he kicked my butt!) and then the game rayman raving rabbids. the game is absolutely ridiculous. at first glance, it looks like a little kids game, but i can already tell that it going to be the best drunk game ever.
(throwing daisy the cow as far as possible. i like it when she lands on the rabbid and squishes him)
(attacking the rabbids with a toilet plunger gun)

eamon's favorite (i.e. the reason he bought the game) is the game where you have to dance with a bunch of rabbids and, keeping in time with the music, bop them in the head.
i like video games, but have never gotten into the newer consoles. i think (go ahead and laugh) it's because of all the buttons. i can't keep track. obviously not a problem with the wii.

mario party:8 for wii comes out in may. i am so flipping excited. we (ryan, mark, kate and i) used to play it at the leary's because we are so incredibly cool.

i think this last one is my favorite - though it's so hard to choose! she takes after me. obviously.

travers sent me this today, and though i was never as obsessed with it as he or my sister, i did like the show, and would be totally into something like this.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SING-A-LONG: PROM EDITION
Sat, April 14 @ midnite$12 all seats BUY TICKETS
"It's like Rocky Horror, only much more with the FUN." - MTV News
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sing-A-Long, an audience interactive celebration of the best television show ever, kicks off a sweeping nationwide tour at the theatre the started it all - the Coolidge. To celebrate, we're taking over the entire theatre for one night only and converting it into the ultimate High School Senior Prom!
The night begins with the Buffy Sing-A-Long, a big-screen presentation of "Once More With Feeling", the legendary musical episode from Buffy's sixth season. In the tradition of Rocky Horror and other interactive fan favorites, the audience sings along and participates in the show with props provided in our custom Buffy Goodie Bag. Finger puppets are waved, streamers pour over the audience, bubbles fill the air, kazoos blow, vampire teeth are worn, underwear is thrown (don't ask), and the audience implores Buffy's little sister Dawn to just "shut up!". But that's not all...
After all the singing and dancing on screen, everyone is invited to join us on the Coolidge's dance-floor stage for our first ever Buffy Prom Dance Party. Balloons, streamers, "Spike" punch, and classic 80s and 90s music will get you in the spirit for a night of glamorous gowns and hot tuxes, awkward slow dances...and possibly an attack from some vicious hell-beasts. This is Sunnydale after all. And of course, there will be that most cruel of Prom traditions, the awarding of a King and Queen based solely on popularity. Prom attire is encouraged!
During the prom we will be inviting everyone to prove themselves Slayer-worthy in the Class Protector Competition. Start with our Buffy Trivia Challenge, featuring three rounds of trivia based on those all important Scooby Gang attributes of Heart (Xander), Spirit (Willow), and Knowledge (Giles). Then the top Slayers will face-off in the ultimate acting challenge of Buffy-oke, recreating some of our favorite Buffy scenes, before facing off with our own "Big Bad". There can only be one Chosen One, who will receive our hand-made Class Protector Award.

i sent it to jenn, but she is leaving to go to mississippi saturday morning and is totally upset she's missing it. BUT the group is based out of nyc, and they do a show once a month. there is one the week before her wedding. maybe i will take her down to ny as a get away before the big day? a little sisterly bonding.

you'll shoot your eye out

Film director Robert Clark, best known for the beloved holiday classic "A Christmas Story," was killed with his son Wednesday in a car wreck, the filmmaker's assistant and police said.

Clark, 67, and son Ariel Hanrath-Clark, 22, were killed in the accident in Pacific Palisades, said Lyne Leavy, Clark's personal assistant.

The two men were in an Infiniti that collided head-on with a GMC Yukon around 2:30 a.m. PST, said Lt. Paul Vernon, a police spokesman. The driver of the other car was under the influence of alcohol and was driving without a license, Vernon said.

i can see - it's a miracle

(a little ferngully action for you right there)

as the wicked smaht person that i am, i left my eyeglasses in las vegas. me = dumb. i can see okay, but working on the computer, watching tv or reading can give me headaches. so when i went home at the end of march, i went to my eye doctor and got new frames (and apparently a better prescription).

and now they are here - and on my eyes. they are by jai kudo. mine are the ones that go from grey to clear, and i really like them. now i just have to take a picture with them on my face.

a workout for jenn

my sister asked me to put together an arm workout for her so that she can get her arms toned for her august wedding. i have adapted an old workout we used at uconn for her, and figured i would share it with all of cyberspace.

jenn's dress (courtesy of davidsbridal.com)

Jenn’s (adapted) arm workout:
The key to this exercise is to be continuous. If you stop between each different exercise, the workout loses its effect. The 36 reps (6 reps of 6 different exercise) should be done quickly, but effectively. 36 reps = 1 set. You should do three sets, with a short rest in between. You might not be able to do it all right off the bat, but work your way up, maybe by doing 3 reps of each instead of 6.

I have always done this with a long bar (Olympic bar), but it can be adapted for hand weights (which I have done here).

6 x Bent Over rows
6 x Bicep curls
6 x Reverse bicep curls (I forget what these are actually called)
6 x Upright row
6 x Overhead press
6 x Tricep Press

Other (relatively) easy suggestions:

Do as many squats as possible. These can be done any time, but are usually best if you set rules for yourself. Examples: Every time you wake up in the morning, do 30 squats. Every time you go to the bathroom, do 20 squats. If you are watching TV, do squats until commercials are over. If you are doing a DVD TV marathon, do 50 squats between each episode.

Don’t be idle. Why sit when you can exercise? Do crunches while watching movies. Do butt clenches at your desk. Same goes for standing. While cooking your meals, do calf raises.

Don’t settle for a mediocre workout. The only person who will know is you. Noone is going to push you, so you have to keep yourself motivated. Telling yourself that you don’t need to do those last 5 crunches, or that you don’t need to do real push-ups because they are harder only hurts you. Don’t make excuses for yourself.

i am an addict...

...to fantasy baseball.

it's a sickness. seriously. i blame my boyfriend. he's the one who introduced me to it. i love it because it makes me care about all of the games (instead of just the AL east). i play eamon this week and he is currently kicking my butt. that's okay. it's early yet. i keep telling myself this, and yet am constantly checking my stat tracker while i am working. it is soooo distracting. frak. one of eamon's batter just got another hit.

one thing i don't like about fantasy baseball (and this is pretty much the only thing): i find myself cheering for the yankees. that's right. my fantasy line-up includes jorge "i look like a ferret" posada, derek jeter and andy pettite. shoot me now.

sox game starts in about 40 minutes. opening day and schilling's on the mound. life is good.

sad news

one of the women i work with just found out that her husband has pancreatic cancer. the thing with that type of cancer is that it's basically a waiting game. he could have a few months, he could have a few years. my thoughts and prayers go out to them during such an emotionally draining time.

adam is here...cue drunken festivities

eamon's bf/college roommate was transferring to a base in california, and stopped in the fort for a few days on his way. adam's a lot of fun, so i knew it was going to be a good time. though there were a few glitches in our plans, it turned out mostly okay.

wednesday: adam got here at least an hour early. even though i left work early, i barely beat him to the house. we (along with dave + anne) headed down to denver to see brian clancy perform at fado's. unfortunately he was sick or something so we drove all the way down for nothing. ate some dinner than drove back and played pool, ping pong and darts at coopersmiths.
thursday: it snowed in wyoming overnight, and halfway on my commute to work my boss told me to turn around. i heart working from home (especially on my brand new laptop!). we went to new belgium brewery and did a self guided tour and beer tasting. unfortunately i didn't really like any of the beers we tried. at night we went to sundance to play in the beer pong tournament. unfortunately andrew got stuck in wyoming so we had an odd number of people. i was the best gf ever and let them play together while me and my favorite bartender justin had ice fights.
friday: wydot was still advising no unnecessary travel, even though the roads were really not bad. i got a lot of work done during the day and was able to party hearty friday night. started the night at stonehouse and danced the night away at zydecco's.
saturday: adam left in the morning (he had to be in cali by sunday night). snow came home from baghdad so we all went down to denver to celebrate. it was good to hang with everyone and great to see snow again, so it was mostly a good time.
sunday: really just recovered for most of the day. we do trivia on sunday nights at coopersmiths. despite our best score to date, our team (eastcoastbias) was ranked in the lower half of the teams.
