girls night out

sam got a vip invite to the ultimate white party at shrine tonight. samantha ronson is deejaying. we're meeting up with some former bacardi girls - it should be fun. i'm sure there will be pictures, and i'll make sure to share them with you.

what have i been up to?

there's a question. i would like to say that i have gone into hiding now that i have witnessed the sure sign of the apocalypse, but that would be a lie.

last weekend four out of five bridesmaids went into wedding mode. or i was in wedding mode and forced them to be as well. :o) friday night we made lists of wedding-related things, just trying to get on the same page(s). saturday we went bridesmaid dress shopping, where the girls decided that they should all wear the same dress. i had told them it just needed to be the same color/designer, but they all fell for a very pretty bari jay short number (in hunter green). well, liz, carey and sam did. champ didn't get a vote, but will look stunning anyway. jenn (my moh) is going to look for something longer. which is fine by me.

seeing as that didn't take very long, i started looking around for wedding dresses. which i still don't have. i am in wedding dress hell. every time i go i find something i like better. but nothing perfect. liz keeps saying i will know when i find it. perhaps. but i know that i would be happy with several that i have found. so i'm trying to keep that in mind to stop from freaking out. it's just a dress. though, i don't really believe that.

the hunt continued on sunday, when i went looking at another store. i found three more possibilities (but still not perfect), but my grandmother had better luck. mimi found a beautiful deep red jewel-toned 2 piece that is elegant and perfect for her.

let me know if you want to weigh-in on the great wedding dress debate. my google chat buddies were a great help the other day. (thanks cara, kate sam, liz, and jayde!)

jd drew is the mvp of the all star game at yankee stadium

let me tell you. jd drew and mvp are not two words i thought would ever go together. in fact, if you had asked me last year (when i wanted to buy a parrot just to teach it to say, "two on, two out, drew grounds out") i would have just laughed at you. or snickered because you obviously didn't watch of red sox games.

but, it's a new year. and jd drew isn't just an all-star. he was voted most valuable player. at yankee stadium no less.

After finally winning over the fans in Boston, Drew even earned plaudits from Yankee fans with his performance on Tuesday, which started with a game-tying two-run homer off Edinson Volquez in the seventh inning.

"It was brief, to say the least," Drew said of the cheers from the New York crowd. "It was a little weird, and I heard about it when I got back out to right field, for sure. Then as the game went along, I think they forgot that I hit a home run and it picked up again."

niki in the news

From southcoasttoday:

FALL RIVER — Nicole DeCambra of Somerset has been appointed media specialist at Bristol Community College.

Ms. DeCambra, formerly a writer and promotions specialist at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo., will work with the local and national media and provide support for implementing the college's overall communications plan. One of her primary responsibilities is to promote the college's new varsity sports program.

At LCCC, Ms. DeCambra managed the promotion of college events, including internal and external communications and marketing for the Golden Eagles Athletics program, which fielded athletic teams in horse showing, rodeo, men's basketball, women's volleyball, and men's and women's soccer.

A graduate of Somerset High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Connecticut.

During her four years at UConn, she represented the university as a NCAA Division I student-athlete on the varsity women's rowing team.

She won two consecutive gold medals at the Dad Vail Regatta Championship, the only two in the history of the program.

more bcc in the news

the herald news ran our press release on the hiring of our new coaches on the front page of the sports section its entirety. not as cool as the new york times (see below), but i'll take it.

Bristol Community College has appointed the coaches for men’s and women’s soccer and basketball for the 2008-09 season. The upcoming season will be the college’s first in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

...or "Something That Makes me Look Good at Work."

Bristol Community College is mentioned in the New York Times today in response to increased in enrollment due to gas prices. Not a big mention, but as Sally likes to say, they spelled the name right.

At Bristol Community College in Fall River, Mass., for instance, online enrollments were up 114 percent this summer over last, and half the students queried cited gas costs or some other transportation obstacle as a reason for signing up to study over the Internet, said April Bellafiore, an assistant dean there.

“Online classes filled up immediately,” Ms. Bellafiore said. “It blew my mind.”

mischief managed...

find it on kaboodle

i have been on a heavy harry potter kick recently. i created a "harry potter" list in kaboodle and this is one of my favorite things on it. from the website:
Fill this magical mug up with something hot and it turns from "I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good" to "Mischief Managed", it also turns from black to white!
cute, no?

do you kaboodle?

i have composed sonnets to kaboodle before, but i pretty much left it up to you to witness the awesomeness on your own.

no more.

now i'm going to force feed you.

for all of you just tuning in (hi), kaboodle is a social shopping community. yes, there are others out there. but this is what i use. and i'm still unlocking it's secret powers.

to get started, i added the kaboodle tool to my firefox toolbar. when i'm surfing the net, and i see something i like, i click the icon and it adds the item and all of its pertinent information to one of my kaboodle lists.

here's where it gets fun.

when it gets posted to your list, it shows you everyone else that has also kaboodled that item (not sure if thats a verb, but i just made it one), other items that may be related, other lists that it has been included on, etc.

ergo...i saw this dress at nordstrom's site a while back:
and i added it to my kaboodle list that i cleverly titled "playing dress up" (not that clever, i know). i see that other people have added the dress (9 so far) . which means that they may have similar styles to me. so i can check out all of their lists to see what they have found. i can also ask them to be my friend so that i can keep track of everything they add in an easier manner.

on the related side, kaboodle pulls things that may be related. So other dresses by that designer, dresses in the same style or price range, or at the same store.

but, my friends, kaboodle is not just for shopping. i use kaboodle as a recipe box and resource for crafty ideas. see a recipe you like? kaboodle it. see diy instructions on how to create a jewelry frame (more on that later)? kaboodle it.

it's online window shopping with an infinite number of friends. how fabulous can you get?

assignment: fort meade, maryland

we finally heard.

after months of being asked on a daily basis "have you heard where you're going next?" "does eamon know his next assignment?" we got official notice that eamon has been placed at fort meade in maryland.

and we're going to take it.

no boston did not move to maryland overnight (at least, not that i know of), but we are really excited (and nervous) about the assignment. it's still on the eastcoast, and from a professional standpoint (for me), this was probably one of the best bases that we could have gotten. the assignment opens up a lot of opportunities, and there are so many more reasons to take it rather than get out.

fort meade is about 30 minutes from baltimore, 45 from dc. we're currently looking for places inside the beltway (college park for example) near the metro, so that we have easy access to dc, and eamon would go against traffic to fort meade.

that being said, i am not moving down until after the wedding. in fact, i'm not even going to start looking for jobs until after the wedding. at that point, eamon will be six months in and we'll have a better idea of where we are.

we're still learning things, and i'm lucky to have some friends in the area. one of my best friends grew up in arlington, so she (and her family) will be a huge help. but i'll keep you all posted.
